AskGPT is designed with privacy in mind. Your website's content is used solely to power your chatbot — we do not sell your data to third parties, ever.
Data We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name and email address
- Password (stored as a secure hash — never in plain text)
- Google account information if you sign in with Google
- Billing information processed securely via Stripe
Website & Chatbot Data
To train your chatbot, we collect and process:
- URLs and page content from websites you submit for crawling
- Documents you upload (PDFs, DOCX, text files)
- Manual Q&A pairs you enter in the dashboard
- Chatbot configuration settings (name, colors, welcome message)
Conversation Data
We store conversations between your website visitors and your chatbot, including:
- Visitor messages and chatbot responses
- Lead capture data (names, emails, phone numbers) submitted by visitors
- Conversation timestamps and session identifiers
- Approximate visitor location (country/region only)
Usage & Analytics Data
- Dashboard usage patterns (pages viewed, features used)
- Browser type, operating system, device type
- IP address (anonymized after 30 days)
- Referral source and UTM parameters
How We Use Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and improve our services — train chatbots, generate AI responses, and run the platform
- Authenticate users — verify your identity and protect your account
- Process payments — manage subscriptions and billing through Stripe
- Send service communications — account alerts, crawl completions, usage warnings, and billing receipts
- Provide customer support — respond to inquiries and troubleshoot issues
- Analyze and improve — understand how users interact with the platform to make it better
- Prevent fraud and abuse — monitor for policy violations and security threats
We do not use your website content, chatbot training data, or visitor conversations to train any shared AI models. Your data powers only your chatbots.
Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure infrastructure with the following protections:
- All data transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Passwords hashed using bcrypt with salt rounds
- Database access restricted by IP allowlists and VPC rules
- S3 files stored with server-side AES-256 encryption
- JWT tokens with short expiry and secure rotation
- Regular security audits and dependency updates
While we implement industry-standard security measures, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication.
Data Locations
Primary data is stored in the United States (MongoDB Atlas US East, Amazon S3 us-east-1). EU customers can request EU-region storage — contact us at privacy@askgpt.ai.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under applicable privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.):

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@askgpt.ai or use the account deletion option in Dashboard → Settings. We respond to all requests within 30 days.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specific retention periods:
- Account data — retained until account deletion
- Conversation history — Starter plan: 30 days; Growth/Enterprise: unlimited (or until deleted)
- Billing records — 7 years (required by financial regulations)
- Error logs — 90 days
- Anonymized analytics — up to 24 months
When you delete your account, all personal data and chatbot training data is deleted within 30 days. Billing records are retained as required by law.
Children's Privacy
AskGPT is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us immediately at privacy@askgpt.ai and we will delete it promptly.
Policy Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Sending an email to your registered address
- Displaying a prominent notice on the dashboard
- Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
Your continued use of AskGPT after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
